Page 1 column 6MCGUIRE FUNERAL TO BE MONDAY AT LUTHERAN CHURCH. Last rites will be Monday morning July 22, for DR. ROY MCGUIRE, long-time Fairfield physician who passed away suddenly Friday noon at his home, 115 S. Court Street. The service will be at 10 a.m. in the Lutheran church with DR. E. A. PIPAR in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body is at the Weston Behner funeral home. The body will lie in state at the Behner Funeral Home Sunday and military rites will be conducted at the grave.
DR. MCGUIRE'S sudden death terminates a period of nearly a half century during which he served his community as a doctor, as a civic worker and a soldier.
He started his practice in medicine at Brighton after his graduation from the University of Iowa. He remained at Brighton until 1925 at which time he and his family moved to Fairfield where he had practiced since until ill health forced him to retire a few years ago. At the time of his death he had been a doctor for 49 years.
He was a veteran of World War I, having served as a captain in the American Red Cross hospital unit at Coutraxevill, France, for 22 months. During World War II he was an officer in the Iowa State Guard.
DR. MCGUIRE also served as a member of the school board, both at Brighton and in Fairfield, and is a former mayor of Brighton. He was a long time member of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce and consistently took an active part in civic affairs.
ROY A. MCGUIRE was born August 18, 1880, at Merrimac, Iowa, the son of the late CHARLES and ELIZABETH (KIENTZ) MCGUIRE. He was educated in the Pleasant Plain Academy and the University of Iowa. He was united in marriage on June 30, 1909, to LULU SEAMAN who survives. In additon to his wife, he is survived by the following children: HARVE, Bonaparte, Iowa; DR. KENNETH MCGUIRE, Keota; MRS. RALPH RIZOR, Lockridge; BEN, Carlsbad, New Mexico; and WILLIS, Charles City, Iowa. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: MRS. CARRIE SCHOEWE, Lawrence, Kansas; MRS. ANNE BLACK, Fremont, Iowa; HARRY MCGUIRE, Wayland, Iowa; and CHARLES MCGUIRE, Wadsworth, Kansas.
DR. MCGUIRE was preceded in death by a daughter, GENEVIEVE, who was killed in 1930, and his parents.
