Richard L. 'Dick' LEACOX

Richard L. "Dick" LEACOX, 82, of Bettendorf, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf. Interment will be at a later date in Cedar Rapids.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church.

Mr. LEACOX was born March 15, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Howard and Velma HOTLE LEACOX. He married Carol A. FRANCE June 8, 1952, in Urbana.

Mr. LEACOX's parents were dairy farmers, and he spent the early part of his life working on the farm with his family. He and his wife farmed in Walker until 1960. Mr. LEACOX had been employed by AETNA Insurance Company since 1983 and served as the agency manager in Davenport. He was later transferred to the AETNA office in Hartford, Conn., where he designed sales and software programs for the company until his retirement in 1997. In earlier years, Mr. LEACOX worked for the Farm Bureau Insurance Company in Jefferson, Wapello and Scott counties.

Mr. LEACOX was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and sang in the choir. He also was a member of CASI's "Golden Tones" singing group and was a former member of the Bettendorf Lions Club.

Mr. LEACOX enjoyed singing with the church choirs in the various places he lived through the years, spending time with family, gardening, taking on home improvement projects and helping neighbors and friends.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Paula STECKER and husband Carl of Port Au Prince, Haiti, David LEACOX and wife Julie of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Eric LEACOX and wife Lynne of Blue Grass and Tracy MORLING and husband Keith of Galesburg, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis BLAKESLEY of Independence; and one daughter-in-law, Roma LEACOX of Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by one son, Mark; one granddaughter; one sister, Billie Jean; one brother, Sam; and his parents.
