Death came at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday to Mrs. Jessie M. LATHROP (sic. Jessie Mae SHIRKEY LATHROP), 86, 702 E. Adams, who died at the Jefferson County Hospital.
She had been in failing health for some time and a patient at the hospital since Nov. 16.
Last rites have been set for Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Hickman in charge. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Jessie M. LATHROP was born Feb. 2, 1888, in Putman County, Mo., the daughter of Wesley (sic. John Wesley "Wes" SHIRKEY) and Rachel HINES SHIRKEY.
She was married to Joseph LATHROP Sept. 24, 1910, in Unionville Mo. She spent practically her entire married life in the Fairfield community.
Mrs. LATHROP was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, three grandchildren and a sister.
Survivors include one son, Ernest, Fairfield; two daughters, Mrs. Wilma BAILEY and Mrs. Kathleen GRIFFIN, both of Fairfield; ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Emil HESTON, Fairfield.

Jessie's husband, Joseph Franklin LATHROP, is buried in Evergreen cemetery, Fairfield Iowa. He died in 1939 as a result of a vehicle/pedestrian accident in Fairfield (he was the pedestrian struck by the vehicle).
Jessie is buried beside her/their daughter Kathleen.
