Donald L. VEST

Donald L. VEST, 67, of Columbus Junction and formerly of Fairfield and Ottumwa died at 8:20 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with the Rev. Loyd Osborn officiating. The body has been cremated. Inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post 775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post 3 of American Legion. A memorial has been established to American Diabetes Association.

Mr. VEST was born Jan. 2, 1932, in Albia, the son of Leon and Mary Mae DAVIS VEST. He married Beverly Jean KEARNS Dec. 31, 1960. She died April 21, 1991.

He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had been an employee of The Dexter Company and retired from Crane Company in Washington, Iowa, in 1989.

Survivors include two daughters, Marcene BAILEY of Sigourney and Brenda MURRAY of Ottumwa; two stepsons, Greg STEWARD of Stockport and Steven STEWARD of Ottumwa; one granddaughter, Amanda VEST of Ottumwa, who was raised in the home; six grandchildren; three sisters, Betty MINGLES of Des Moines, Delores WULFF of St. Paul, Ore., and Mary Ellen ALBERTSON of Austin, Texas; two brothers, James VEST of Wellman and John VEST of Keota.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Celine RUPE; and one brother, Charles VEST.
