G. Alfreda HOSKINS, 92, of the Community Care Village of Toledo, former Fairfield resident, died at 7:20 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 1996, at the care center.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dr. Peter G. Drever Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation is open at Raymond Funeral Home. Memorials have been established to First Lutheran Church and the Iowa Commission for the Blind.
Mrs. HOSKINS was born Aug. 26, 1903, in Ottumwa, the daughter of August Victor and Hattie S. PETTERSON BLOMGREN. She grew up in Ottumwa and graduated from Ottumwa High School. On Nov. 28, 1923, she married Harry W. ENGSTRAND in Ottumwa. He died Sept. 21, 1937. On Feb. 21, 1942, she married Omar N. HOSKINS in Fairfield. He died Aug. 30, 1991. She served as deputy clerk of district court from 1937 until 1942. She worked at First National Bank and for the Simmons and Simmons Law Office, both in Fairfield. She and her husband moved in 1946 to Brighton, where they owned and operated the funeral home for 12 years before retiring. They moved back to Fairfield in 1958 and to Toledo in 1986. She was a member of First Lutheran Chuch; Lutheran Church Women; Chapter E, TTT; Toledo Chapter DF, PEO; a former member of Fairfield Chapter C, PEO; and was a past president of Brighton Chapter, AQ, PEO.
Surviving are two grandchhildren; three stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert ENGSTRAND; a stepson; a stepdaughter; three brothers; a sister; a great-great-grandson and a step-great-grandson.
