Vickie L. HUGHES, 57, of Cantril, died at 2:30 a.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Victoria Lorene HUGHES

Victoria Lorene "Vickie" HUGHES, 57, of Cantril, died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cantril Christian Church, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton.

Open visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with family present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials to Waubonsie Park in Cantril may be left at the funeral home or church or may be mailed to the family at P.O. Box 12, Cantril 52542.

Mrs. HUGHES was born Aug. 9, 1954, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Peter NC and Irene FINDLAY NELSON. She married Danny L. HUGHES March 22, 1975, at Cantril Christian Church.

Mrs. HUGHES grew up in the Cantril area and graduated from Fox Valley High School in 1972. She attended cosmetology school in Fairfield. She worked at Corry Machine & Tool in Bonaparte and Eagle Plastics, Barker Ltd. and Barker Wire, all in Keosauqua.

Mrs. HUGHES' hobbies included gardening, taking horse drawn carriage rides and playing with her granddaughter.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Travis HUGHES of Cantril; one granddaughter; her mother of Milton; her father of Farmington; three sisters, Malinda NELSON of Pulaski and Laura NELSON and Karla SHEETZ, both of Keosauqua; and one brother, Pete NELSON of New London.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Steven NELSON; and one sister, Pamela NELSON.
