Dorothy M. POHREN

Dorothy M. POHREN, 91, of Lockridge, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at New Sweden United Methodist Church in rural Lockridge, with the Rev. Dianne Brokken and the Rev. Peggy Egbert officiating. Burial will be in New Sweden Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday at Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will be from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to New Sweden United Methodist Church.

Mrs. POHREN was born April 25, 1920, in Buchanan Township, the daughter of Sherman and Blanch ESHELMAN NORTON. She married Harold POHREN Dec. 28, 1940. He died Nov. 8, 1966.

Mrs. POHREN lived her first years on the farm and attended school at Lynn No. 9 Country School until she was 9 years old. The family then moved to the Shuppy place, where Mrs. POHREN attended school at Mohawk No. 9 and then Brighton High School, graduating in 1939. The POHRENs farmed all their lives and settled on 160 of Ralph Bennett's acres, which they bought in 1966.

Mrs. POHREN was a member of New Sweden United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Lockridge Senior Citizens and Lockridge Senior Kitchen Band. She was an adopted grandma for many people.

Survivors include nine children: Patsy McLAIN and husband John, Joyce LeDUC and husband Jim, Jack POHREN and wife Donna, Sharon NELSON and husband Danny, Sue HOPPER and husband Don, John POHREN and wife Mary and Sheila WESTPHAL and husband Bryan, all of Lockridge, Jim POHREN and wife Linda of Mount Pleasant and Charlotte POHREN of Mason City; 25 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; 24 stepgreat-grandchildren; and one sister: Velma DERBY of Washington.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons: Glen in infancy and Jerry; two grandsons; seven brothers: Art, Dale, Russell, Verle, Pete, Floyd and Raymond; and one sister: Viola.
