Vivian June HELFENSTINE

Vivian June HELFENSTINE, 87, of Spirit Lake, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.

Her funeral was Tuesday at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Burial was at Lakeview Gardens.

Mrs. HELFENSTINE was born June 30, 1924, in Libertyville, the daughter of Van T. and Bertha Marie SCOVEL LAWSON. She married Jack HELFENSTINE May 5, 1956, in Fairfield.

She lived in Maine, Michigan, Wisconsin and Kansas City before moving to Spirit Lake more than 30 years ago. She and her husband owned and operated Sportsmans Pub in Spirit Lake for 21 years. She lived at Lake Park Care Center for four years before moving to Milford Care Center 1.5 years ago.

Mrs. HELFENSTINE was a member of the Methodist church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and fishing.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sherry COVINGTON of Kansas City, Mo.; a son, Kevin HELFENSTINE; two granddaughters; a brother, Max LAWSON of Burlington; and a sister, Evelyn CLINGAN of Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Edwin LAWSON.
