Mervin "Rex" RILEY, 70, of Batavia died at 9:05 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Jefferson County Hospital.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Cary officiating. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery in Abingdon. Family visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. RILEY was born March 16, 1929, the son of Gerald Blaine and Florence Vivian SCHOOLEY RILEY. He married Clara May SHEPHERD Nov. 3, 1956. She died Dec. 14, 1971.
Mr. RILEY lived most of his life in the Fairfield area. He graduated from Packwood High School in 1947. He had lived in Arkansas from 1981-1994.
He was employed as a maintenance supervisor for the American Chain and Cable for 38 years. He retired 1994. He was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his mother of Fairfield; two daughters, Kathy Ann VAN DE LAAR of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and Sherry Lynn MANLEY of Ottumwa; one son, David RILEY of Los Angeles; one grandson; two brothers, Dwight Wendell RILEY of Centerville and Merrill Dean RILEY of Fairfield; and a long-time companion, Donna DAUGHERTY of Batavia.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Verlyn Cloyce RILEY.
