Pg. 8 Col. 4DEATH TAKES E. B. LANE, 79
E. B. LANE (sic. Everett Brinton LANE), 79, passed away at 1:40 this morning at the Jefferson county hospital. He had been in failing health for some time and seriously ill for the past three weeks.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nellie LANE, and the following children: Howard J. and Frank A., both of Pontiac, Mich.; Mrs. Grace MARESCH (sic. MARESH), Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Alberta NEWLON, Fairfield; and a step-daughter, Mrs. Margaret KESSELRING, Keokuk. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. One daughter, Ruby, died in infancy.
Mr. LANE was born May 7, 1865 at Trenton, in Henry county, Iowa. He was employed in Trenton, by the Turney Wagon Works and came to Fairfield in 1888 at the time that the wagon factory was moved to this city. He was employed by that company for 60 years, until the time when the factory was closed.
He was a member of the First Baptist church in Fairfield. Funeral services will be held there at 1:30 Sunday afternoon, December 24, with Rev. M. E. Ellick, jr., officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen cemetery. The body is at the Hoskins funeral home.

--------
Notes: Son of George LANE and Sarah Ann ELLIOTT LANE. They are also buried in this same LANE family plot (Old.P.104) in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa (their graves are unmarked, however). Everett and his third wife, Nellie LINN LANE, do have headstones in this family plot.Marriages (sources are obituaries and marriage record transcriptions):
#1 - Nellie DILL LANE, December 19, 1870 in Trenton, Henry county, Iowa.
#2 - Ethel SHRINER LANE, August 20, 1900 in Fairfield, Jefferson county, Iowa.
#3 - Nellie LINN LANE, April 17, 1910 in Fairfield, Jefferson county, Iowa (at her home).
That Everett married two women with the same first name "Nellie" has caused some confusion in certain family group sheet files and Lane family research, causing some parent-child relationships to be mis-attributed.
Everett had several children, at least three (likely five, with two deceased as infants. Of those two, one is buried in Old Fairfield City cemetery, the other being Ruby/Rubie, buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Old.P.104 in the LANE family plot) with Nellie DILL LANE; and one with Ethel SHRINER LANE (Ethel died just three weeks after giving birth in 1901).
Nellie LINN LANE was the biological mother of Margaret LINN KESSELRING (sic. later, MILLER), referred to in Everett's obituary.
