Fern Moraine HOGAN, 95, of Fairfield, died late Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home in Richland.

Fern 'Morine' HOGAN

Fern "Morine" HOGAN, 95, of Fairfield, formerly of Richland, passed away at 10:50 P.M. Monday, December 5, 2011, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield. She was born May 6, 1916, in Jefferson County near Brookville to William "Earl" and Flossie Melvina KNOX CRAWFORD. She attended rural schools in Jefferson County. Morine married Leonard James HOGAN on December 6, 1933, in Fairfield and he passed away on May 31, 1976. She and her husband lived near Brookville, then near Packwood for 18 years before moving to the Richland area in 1961 where she worked at the Richland school. She had lived in Fairfield since 1988 and at the Parkview Care Center for two years. As a homemaker Morine was an accomplished seamstress and cook and was known by many for her home made noodles, pies, candy and cookies. Morine was a member of the People's Church, the Abingdon Dorcas Society for over 50 years and a long time member of the Abingdon Mystery Sisters. She liked to play cards and was an avid sports fan.

She is survived by two daughters: Nancy (Larry) SWAIM of Fairfield and Sheryl WILLIAMS of Richland, daughter-in-law Baja HOGAN of Shell Rock, Iowa, nine grandchildren: Connie HOGAN, Debra (Dale) WALKER, Chris (Rene) HOGAN, Sherry (Brian) TAGLAUER, Stacey SWAIM, Tanya (Todd) DANIEL, Matthew MILLIGAN, Tara HUFF and Clint WILLIAMS, 14 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and four sisters: Mary SHANSTROM and Ila Mae BRADSHAW of Fairfield, Lucille DAVIS of Grinnell and Virginia CONN of Monroe, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Richard "Dick" HOGAN, and three brothers: Wayne Earl CRAWFORD in infancy, Charles "Bud" CRAWFORD and William "Bill" CRAWFORD.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Friday December 9, 2011, at the Gould Funeral Home in Richland with Pastor Alan Mullikin officiating. Burial will be in the Richland Friends Cemetery. Open visitation will be Thursday 5-6 P.M. at the funeral home. The family will greet friends Friday for one hour preceding the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Parkview Care Center activity fund or the Lord's Cupboard in Fairfield may be left at the funeral home or sent to Nancy SWAIM at 2060 Libertyville Road, Fairfield, IA 52556.
