Russell Jarrett WINTER, 79, of 103 Washington died at 5:55 a.m. Aug. 15, 1997, at the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.
He was born Sept. 19, 1917, in Fairfield to John Elisha and Effie Dell LONGERBONE WINTER. He married Lela BURNETT; they later divorced. He married Marjorie ELDER BOWERMASTER Aug. 31, 1973.
He grew up in Fairfield, graduating from Fairfield High School in 1936. He was a resident of Fairfield most of his life until moving to Libertyville in 1973. He was employed at Iowa Malleable Iron Company for over 30 years and was a house painter for many years.
He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville. He served in the U.S. Navy, Pacific Fleet during World War II.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Darrell WINTER of Ely, Nev.; a daughter, Rochelle WINTER HAWKINS of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three stepchildren, Linda FORDYCE of Libertyville, Carol MINER of Fairfield and Daniel BOWERMASTER of Florida; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lawrence "Unk" WINTER of Omaha, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters, Crystal WINTER, Beatrice CRAWFORD, Juanita SCOTT and Freda MARR; and 4 brothers, Virgil, John, Alva and Darrell WINTER.
The service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, the Rev. Tony Putalie officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Family visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Libertyville Community Center or the Faith United Methodist Church.
