Death of Mrs. BLACK

On Saturday last, at the home of her son, W. G. BLACK, near this city, occurred the death of an aged lady, who was among our earlier settlers and was well known to all our older people - Mrs. Nancy BLACK. Her age was seventy-two years, and for some time she has been in feeble health and confined to her bed. The maiden name of deceased was GLASGOW, and she was born near Winchester, Adams county, Ohio. She was married to Moses BLACK August 30, 1827, and came to Iowa with her husband and family in 1844. Mr. BLACK died April 29, 1867 (sic. May 1, 1867 according to his obituary), in this county, and his remains were interred here. Mrs. BLACK was the mother of twelve children, six of whom are dead, and six now live in this county, W. G. BLACK, Mrs. C.W. GAGE, Miss Dicey BLACK, W. M. BLACK, Mrs. Geo. W. BURKHART and Matthew BLACK. The funeral occurred Sunday last.

Note: Nancy BLACK was born June 16, 1809 and died October 14, 1881. She was buried in Lot 172 in Old Fairfield City Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa.
