Virginia Rae LETTS

WASHINGTON, Iowa --- Virginia Rae LETTS, 53, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday morning, Sept. 11, 1993, at her home. She had been in failing health since March.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Bonham officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Fairfield. Visitation is open at the funeral home, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 tonight. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. LETTS was born Jan. 21, 1940, in Iowa City, the daughter of Ernest and Beatrice A. WINTER CRAWFORD. She was educated in Washington Community Schools and Kirkwood Community College in Washington. She married Leroy Edward LETTS on February 18, 1963, in Washington. Before that she had been married to Charlie HESSELTINE. A life-long resident of Washington, she was a homemaker and had worked as a nurse's aide at Halcyon House.

Surviving are eight children, Don HESSELTINE and Joanne SMITH, both of Keota, Doug, Darrell and Duncan HESSELTINE, and Roger LETTS, all of Washington, Dave HESSELTINE of Lawton, Okla., Leroy LETTS Fairfield; 14 grandchildren; six sisters, Mary KNERR, Margerett MANGOLD, Betty STIGERS, all of Washington, Chris BARBER, Helen GOHN, both of Keosauqua, Shirley KNERR of Wellman; two brothers Tom CRAWFORD of Forest City, John CRAWFORD of Fairfield; a number of nieces and nephews. Her parents, a brother, two sisters, two nieces and a nephew preceded her in death.
