COENDER Dies At 81

Martin COENDER, 81, retired Fairfield businessman, died suddenly Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Park View Care Center where he had been a patient for 10 days. His home was at 1100 E. Adams Ave.

Last rites will be held Tuesday at 10 A.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Ed Dorman officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery at New Sharon.

A native of Venray, Holland, Coender was born Aug. 2, 1893. In immigrated to the United States in the early 1920's and became a naturalized U. S. citizen.

COENDER was a lieutenant in The Netherlands Army during World War I. He was in charge of a detail which guarded Kaiser Wilhem at the frontier on Armistice Day, Nov. 11, 1918.

COENDER was married to Tesse Crippin PATTERSON June 8, 1925 at New Sharon. His first employment in Fairfield was with the Montgomery Florist Shop. He opened Coender Greenhouses on Dec. 25, 1930, operating the business until his retirement in 1948. At that time the business was sold to the late Del Deyoe and his wife, Edith Deyoe.

COENDER is suvived by his widow. He had been a member of the Fairfield Lions Club for more than 40 years. He was a life member of The Elks Lodge and a member of the Eagles Lodge (sic - Aerie or Club).
