Rachel Adelia NIXON McVEY

Rachel Adelia NIXON McVEY, 73, of the Carroll Rock neighborhood in Davis County, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Martha E. Lang officiating. Burial will be in Fellows Cemetery in Keosauqua.

Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where family will be present 5-7 p.m.

Memorials to the family may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to 32819 185th St., Douds 52551.

Mrs. McVEY was born Jan. 15, 1938, near Bentonsport, the daughter of Orlie R. and Merian Elsie McCRACKEN NIXON. She married Gene D. McVEY July 9, 1961, in Keosauqua.

Mrs. McVEY graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1956 and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She graduated from William Penn College in Oskaloosa. She taught school in Garrison and Fairfield and at Fox Valley School in Cantril from 1956-2002.

Survivors include her husband.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Edith HEMM; and one brother, Lonnie NIXON.
