Wednesday, 9 April 1947George C. BLACK Funeral Is Held
George C. BLACK, son of Elias and Elizabeth BLACK, was born in Henry county, Iowa, on July 18, 1862 and passed away at his home in Lockridge, Iowa, on April 4, 1947 at 9:15 a.m.. His age at the time of his passing was 84 years, 8 months, and 16 days.
He was united in marriage to Anna B. MESSER on March 9, 1882. the family lived in Jefferson county for 33 years and have lived in the present home for 28 years.
Eight children were born in the home. Six of these children survive their father. They are: Mrs. Grace WILSON, Mt. Pleasant; Harry BLACK, Beckwith; George W. BLACK, near Wooster; Earl BLACK, Iowa City; Jesse BLACK at home; and Leslie BLACK near Hillsboro.
Two daughters: Mrs. Geneva NOBLE, and Mrs. Eva ADAMS, and his wife preceded him in death.
He also leaves one brother, John Calvin BLACK of Mt. Pleasant, besides 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Funeral services in charge of Rev. Warren Green of the Lockridge Baptist church were conducted from the Crane Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant on Sunday, April 6 at 2:00 p.m.
Pallbearers were: Lester Wilson, Roy Black, Charles Black, Ralph Adams, Dale Noble and Glenn Black. Interment was in the Lockridge cemetery.
