Douglas 'Doug' Cyril DICKINSON

Douglas (Doug) Cyril DICKINSON, 68, of Packwood Iowa, passed away November 3, 2011 at the Jefferson County Health Center. He will be forever missed, but fond memories of his kind heart and cheerful sense of humor will be treasured always.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2011 at Behner Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the service and burial of cremains will be held at a later date at the Brighton Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Behner Funeral Home.

The family requests that memorials be made to VFW Post #2271 or the Fairfield Senior Citizen Center. Cards and memorials can be sent to 420 North Main St. Packwood, Iowa 52580.

Doug was born January 3, 1943, in Fairfield, Iowa to Florence Wittmer GORMAN and Glen C. DICKINSON. He married Karen SMITHBURG in September 1967, and they later divorced. He married Mary SHAFRANEK on July 3, 2003, in Packwood, Iowa.

He attended Logan School and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1961. He continued his education at Parsons College and served his country in the U.S Navy, a veteran of the Vietnam War. He moved to Davenport, Iowa and worked as an insurance underwriter for Prudential and later Lohman Company. He retired to Packwood, Iowa in October 2001. He enjoyed going to auctions, watching football, NASCAR, and enjoying time with family and friends.

He will be greatly missed by his wife: Mary Kay of Packwood, his 2 daughters: Angie (Tyce) MISTER and Melissa (Shaun) DICKINSON and 5 grandsons: Logan, Blake and Dylan MISTER and Ethan and Spencer DICKINSON, residing in Saipan of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, 7 siblings: Chuck (Diane) DICKINSON of Burlington, Bob DICKINSON of Colorado, Becky (Jim) STONER of Fairfield, Bill (Lisa) DICKINSON of Ottumwa, Deb DICKINSON of Fairfield, Tom DICKINSON of Fairfield, and Julie (Lane) VORHIES of Fairfield, nieces, nephews and step mother: Mary DICKINSON of Sigourney, Ia.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Anna Kristine.
