The Rev. Edgar Earl NIEDERHUTH Sr., 99, of 1458 Rt. W30, Stockport, died at 3:55 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

The funeral for the Rev. Edgar E. NIEDERHUTH Sr. will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 24, 2003, at the Stockport Christian Church in Stockport, with the Rev. Ted Morelock officiating. Burial will be in the Spencer Cemetery in Stockport (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

Family visitation will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Stockport Christian Church.

Mr. NIEDERHUTH was born Dec. 15, 1903, in Brighton, Ill., the son of the Rev. Otto NIEDERHUTH and Louisa LAUENROTH NIEDERHUTH. He married Anna Rosa JAEGER Aug. 19, 1926, in Burlington. She died Oct. 27, 1990. He then married Darlene M. CUNNINGHAM June 12, 1992, in Tucson, Ariz.

When he felt the call to the ministry, he and his wife Anna went to Louisville, Ky., to attend Southern Baptist Seminary. While attending the seminary he preached at churches in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana. After graduation he served churches in Tilden, Kilgore and Mead, all in Nebraska and managed the Young Peoples' Assembly of Hastings, Neb., for a number of years. Later he was called to serve the Hillsboro, Harrisburg and Bonaparte Baptist churches.

After retiring from full-time pastoral work he farmed south of Stockport. He also took on raising and selling quarter horses. He also did supply preaching in various churches and officiated over many funerals and weddings.

Survivors include his wife Darlene NIEDERHUTH of Stockport; two daughters, Barbara Ann SMITH of West Burlington and Lois Elaine KELLER and husband Robert F. of Stockport; one son, Edgar Earl NIEDERHUTH Jr. and wife Helen L. of Stockport; one sister, Alberta STEWART of Boise, Idaho.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; stepchildren, Mary Jo SMITH, Robin SAVAGE; Joy CUNNINGHAM, Dannel CARTER and Garett CUNNINGHAM, all of Tucson, Ariz.; 13 stepgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and five brothers.
