W. N. GOSSICK DIED LAST EVENING.

W. N. GOSSICK, a well known and highly respected citizen of this city, passed away least evening at 7 o'clock at his home on East Lowe street. Mr. GOSSICK has been in very poor health for a number of years and his death was due to a complication of diseases.

No arrangements have been made as to the time of the funeral waiting the arival of a daughter who is in Colorado.

OBITUARY.

William Newton GOSSIC (sic - GOSICK) son of William and Margaret SHANNON GOSSICK, was born near Athens, Athens county, Ohio, December 3, 1834, and departed this life August 20, 1918, aged 83 years, 9 months and 20 days.

The funeral service was conducted frm (sic) the home Thursday afternoon at three o'clock by his pastor, Rev. R. H. Polly, assisted by S. B. Ross. The body was then laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery.

He grew to manhood near Athens, Ohio, and on January 28, 1853, was united in marriage to Elizabeth T. MANLEY, and they were permitted to spend 64 years of wedded life together, Mrs. GOSSICK departing his life August 1st, 1917.

To this union were born eight children -- 4 sons and 4 daughters. Three sons, Ben. L., William M., and James R., preceded their father in death. The remaining children are: Mrs. Mary JENKINS, Mrs. Zell BROWN, Mrs. W. W. DYER, Mrs. Charles JORDAN, and John C. GOSSICK.

He united with the Christian church in young manhood and was a faithful christian and a strong advocate of the church.

DEATHS.

GOSSICK.

N. W. (sic - W. N.) GOSSICK died Tuesday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. JENKINS, on East Grove street, where he had been making his home snice (sic) the death of his wife, about one year ago.

Mr. GOSSICK was one of Fairfield's best known citizens and an old resident here. He would have been eighty-four years of age in a few days. He leaves four other children in addition to the daughter with whom he lived, who are: John GOSSICK and Mrs. Zell BROWN, of Fairfield; Mrs. Will DYER and Mrs. Chas. JORDAN, of Ottumwa.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. R. H. Polly.

Note: Buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, in Lot 2nd.005 with wife Elizabeth. The more common (and used by later generations) spelling of the surname is GOSSICK, however his obituary spells the name GOSSIC and his gravestone has GOSICK. His gravestone also notes that he was born in 1836, but his death record and obituary state 1834. Consider spelling variations when researching this family.
