Joseph EVANS died in this city Monday about noon. May 29th he suffered a slight wound in the palm of the right hand. A few hours later blood poisoning manifested itself, and, after a few days of intense suffering, caused his death. Mr. EVANS was born and grew to manhood in Washington county, Penn., where he was married to Elizabeth (sic - Mary A.) LACOCK. They reared a family there, and removed to this county nearly twenty-five years ago. While living on a farm north of this city Mrs. EVANS died, in 1877, and since that time the husband had made his home in Fairfield. He died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth MILLIKIN, his only surviving child. He was in the eighty-fourth year of his age. Mr. EVANS had a wide acquaintance in Fairfield and Jefferson county, and no one knew this kindly old man but to admire and love him. The pleasant smile with which he greeted his acquaintances, the kindly word he had for everyone who came in contact with him, could do nothing else than win him friends. His life was protracted beyond that allotted most men, and he lived it all well. Many old friends will miss him from the streets of Fairfield and will truly mourn that he has been called away from us. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the residence of Mrs. MILLIKIN, conducted by Rev. J. F. Magill and Rev. G. W. Mapes, and the remains were interred in this city.
