OBITUARY

GLEN BEAUCHAMP

Glen, first son of William and Stella BEAUCHAMP, was born on March 24, 1894, at Winfield, Ia and departed this life January 25, 1934; at his home, three miles north of Batavia, Ia., aged 38 years, 10 months and 1 day. His mother preceded him in death in 1901.

He was united in marriage to Verle BRAY of Veo, on December 18, 1919, and to this union were born three children, two sons Christy and Leo, and one daughter, Doris, who with their mother survive. He is also survived by his father William C. BEAUCHAMP of Bonaparte, Ia., a brother Dale of Igmore (sic - Ingomar), Montana; and a sister Mrs. Hubert DAGGETT of Dodge Center, Minnesota, and several other relatives and many intimate friends who join in sorrow with the bereaved.

In March 1918, he enlisted his services in the World War at Des Moines. He was later transferred to camp at Charleston, S.C., and in December, 1928, received his honorable discharge from the United States navy at Hampton Roads, Virginia.

He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion, whom assisted in the funeral services Monday afternoon, Jan. 29, at Fairfield.

Rev. James Matheny of Batavia Methodist church officiated at the funeral services and many friends were present to pay their final respects to the departed. He was laid to rest in the Howard Grove cemetery north of Fairfield.

*Transcribed for genealogy purposes; I am not related to the person(s) mentioned.

Note: Glen was married only once according to a granddaughter, to Verle BRAY, who married William E. BALDERSON after Glen's death. Glen is buried in Howard Grove Cemetery in Jefferson County, while Verle and William are buried in Highland Cemetery in Keokuk County, IA. The notation of a second wife in the Jefferson County WPA Graves Survey for Glen is incorrect; this survey was done about 1940 and how the surveyors came up with a Rosella BANCROFT as Glen's spouse is not known. Per David M. (in July, 2015), Rosella/Rozella TALLANT was a sister to David's great-grandfather, John TALLANT. Rozella and John's parents were John TALLANT Sr. and Rebecca ARINGDALE; Rebecca remarried to Rev. Delos BANCROFT after John Sr.'s death, and so daughter Rozella may have been known as Rozella BANCROFT at the time she married William C. BEAUCHAMP. Rozella, therefore, was Glen's stepmother (his mother, Stella LEMON BEAUCHAMP, died in 1901), and not a second spouse.

Verle has a twin sister, Vera, and perhaps this contributed to the error in the second obituary. Vera married a man with the last name of INGHAM.
