Shirley J. ABBEY

Shirley J. ABBEY, 66, of Mount Pleasant died at 11:14 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2001, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Traverce Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Family visitation will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Mrs. ABBEY was born Aug. 5, 1943 (sic - 1934), in Jefferson County, the daughter of Wilbur Merle and Beulah I. BURNETT BAKER. She married Earl J. ABBEY Oct. 1, 1961, in Monmouth, Ill.

She lived most of her life in the Fairfield area and moved to Mount Pleasant after retirement. She attended and graduated from Fairfield High School with the class of 1952. She was a secretary at Fairfield Junior High and worked in the office at Roadway.

She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Survivors include her husband Earl of Mount Pleasant; one son, Brian Earl ABBEY of Belton, Texas; one stepdaughter, Margo ROACH; one stepson, Dennis M. ABBEY of California; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
