Charles 'Chuck' LEWIS

Charles "Chuck" LEWIS, of Burlington, formerly of Ottumwa, died early Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City, Kan., during a return trip from California.

Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home in Richland.

Charles 'Chuck' LEWIS

Charles "Chuck" LEWIS, 61, of Burlington, formerly of Ottumwa, died early Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City, Kan., during a return trip from California.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Linby Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near Martinsburg.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gould Funeral Home in Richland, with the family present 3-4:30 p.m.

A general memorial has been established.

Mr. LEWIS was born July 20, 1950, in Washington, the son of Roy and Lila CLINGMAN LEWIS. He married Sylvia NEWTON Nov. 7, 1972, in Iowa City.

Mr. LEWIS grew up in Linby and graduated from Pekin High School in 1968. He graduated from William Penn College in 1972, attended the University of Iowa and graduated from Northeast Missouri State University with a master's degree in secondary math education in 1976. Early in Mr. LEWIS' career, he was a Honda mechanic for Jerry Smith's Cycle Ranch. He later taught high school math, physics and computer science for many years in several school systems, including Moravia, where he also coached wrestling, Eddyville, Burlington Notre Dame, Murray and Southeastern Community College in Burlington. He also worked as the computer service manager at Meyer's Computers in Ottumwa for 20 years and as the statistical support specialist at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa.

Survivors include his wife and two sisters: Nancy BELL of Cedar Rapids and Diana CAIN of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
