Helen May McEldoon, 70, of Brighton, died at 2:46 a.m. today, Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a brief illness.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Brighton United Church, with the Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton.
The family will be present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton.
A memorial has been established.
Mrs. McEldoon was born Sept. 20, 1932, in Clear Lake, the daughter of James A. and Mina Harter Buck. She married James P. McEldoon II April 14, 1957, in Clear Lake. He died April 23, 1988.
Mrs. McEldoon graduated from Clear Lake High School. After her marriage, she and her husband moved to Brighton in 1965. She was a homemaker and an assistant cashier at Rubio Savings Bank in Brighton from 1977-1997.
She was a member of Brighton United Church, the Brighton Lions Club and volunteered at Washington County Hospital gift shop for a short time. She also served as treasurer for the Hillcrest Cemetery Association for several years.
Survivors include three sons, James P. McEldoon III of Bozeman, Mont., Todd McEldoon of Rochester, Minn., and Mark McEldoon and wife Christy of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; one brother, James Buck of Clear Lake; and two sisters, Ruth Coffin of Eyota, Minn., and Janette Buck of Clear Lake.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Robert Buck.
