DEATH OF W. F. PUMPHREY

... Sunday evening.... one of Fairfield's best citizens -- Wm. F. PUMPHREY who has made Fairfield his home since 1860. Born in Utica, Knox Co., Ohio, May 12 1822. He was a son of one of four sturdy English brothers who settled in Virginia many years earlier; his mother was descended from the CROMWELLs. While living in Licking County, the same state, the father died, throwing his son, a boy of 17, upon his own resources. Jan. 18 1851 Mr. PUMPHREY was married to Miss Mary J. MORGAN, who with four children, two sons and two daughters, survives him. After marriage Mr. & Mrs. PUMPHREY lived at Morrowtown, Ohio, and in Kentucky and Tennessee until their removal to Iowa.... M.E. Church..... The body was interred with Masonic rites....
