C. D. BONNETT DIES SUDDENLY

C. D. BONNETT (sic. Charles Daniel BONNETT), 83 long-time resident of Jefferson county, died suddenly this morning following a stroke at his home 104½ West Adams street. He had eaten his breakfast when he suffered the stroke and died a few minutes later. His death came at 8:00 a.m.

He was born January 21, 1863 (note: a prior Evergreen cemetery transcription used June 21, 1863 for the DOB), in Jefferson county, and lived his entire life in this community except 18 years. He was a retired farmer, the son of the late William and Matilda MADARA BONNETT.

Mr. BONNETT married Maggie WADE on January 26, 1889, and the couple resided on a farm until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Hattie WILLIAMS, Fairfield; Mrs. Lottie LOWE, Richmond, Indiana; and Mrs. Lessie YERION, Fairfield; three sons, Ira, Fairfield; Harry, Red Oak; and Lester, Ogden, Utah; and 15 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Attanta LANGDON (sic. Atlanta LANDON), Flemming, Colorado; and a brother, Ed BONNETT, Libertyville.

The body is at the Weston Behner funeral home where last rites are pending.

Note: the Bonnett family home was razed in the mid-1990s to make way for the new Fairfield Public Library.

Admin. note: The 1900 census for Charles and Maggie BONNETT (in Van Buren County, IA) notes his birth as June, 1863, as does his Death Certificate. Likely the birthdate got confused with the marriage date.
