Thomas W. McCLEARY, 68, of Batavia, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at home.

Arrangements are pending at Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia.

Thomas W. McCLEARY Sr.

Thomas W. McCLEARY, Sr, age 68 of Batavia, passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 30, 2011.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, September 2 at the Batavia United Methodist Church, with pastor Bud Lane officiating. Burial will be in the Batavia Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Thursday at Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia, where the family will be present for visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, and Masonic Rites will be held at 7:00 PM.

Thomas William McCLEARY was born on September 25, 1942 in Batavia, the son of Ray I. and Ocie M. LONGERBONE McCLEARY.

Survivors include his wife Sharon (sic - nee PEEBLER) of Batavia; one son Thomas W. McCLEARY, Jr. and wife Jeannine of Fairfield; one daughter Sandy MARTIN and husband Dave of Muscatine; five grandchildren, Tina, Tammie, Courtney, Clayton, and Mason; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice THOMSEN of Mechanicsville, and Betty Lou PUMPHREY and husband Jack of Hedrick; two brothers, Harley McCLEARY and wife Pat of Grand Junction, CO, and Harvey McCLEARY and wife Kay of Batavia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sons Tony and Timothy, one infant daughter Brenda, one sister Agnes SICKLES, four brothers Stanley, Lloyd, Allen and David McCLEARY, and one niece Jacki CASSETTARI.

Tom had worked for ten years at John Morrell, and then thirty years at John Deere in Ottumwa. He was a member of the Kilwinning Masonic Lodge #198 in Batavia, the UAW Local 74, Batavia United Methodist Church, and the Ottumwa Consistory. He enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, watching sporting events, especially the Cubs and the Hawkeyes, and spending time with his dog Topper. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying mushroom hunting and deer hunting.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for the Batavia United Methodist Church, or the Kilwinning Masonic Lodge #198 in Batavia.
