Harvey Richard SIEREN, 89, of 601 Hursey St. died at 4:10 p.m. August 12, 2011 at Hospice House.
He was born October 12, 1921 in Clear Creek Township, south of Harper, Iowa to Nicholas and Clara MERSCH SIEREN. He married Martha DOUGLAS on September 7, 1943. She preceded him in death on February 14, 1977. He married Marilyn WILKINSON on September 2, 1981.
An 8th grade graduate of University of Clear Creek, he farmed near Hedrick beginning in 1941 where he remained all of his life. He was a grain and livestock farmer, growing seed beans for Pioneer and raising hogs the old fashioned way.
He enjoyed playing cards and drinking coffee at the Ag Center. His greatest joy was spending time with the family, especially his grandchildren.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation in Ottumwa.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn; six children, Connie (John) ESTLE of Fairfield, Nick (Dana) SIEREN of Ottumwa, Rodney (Mary) SIEREN of Hedrick, Roxanne (Bob) DENNER of Fremont, Russell (Sherry) SEIREN and Christopher (Kim) SIEREN both of Hedrick; two stepchildren, Brian WILKINSON of Ottumwa and Brenda (Dave) HELGESON of Rochester, MN.; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; one sister, Rosella BAYLISS of Keota; two brothers, Fremont SIEREN of Sigourney and Howard SIEREN of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Martha; grandson, Clint SIEREN; granddaughter, Rachel SIEREN; four sisters, Evelyn WEBER, Luanna WEBER, Luvina BAYLISS and Isabelle BEINHART; three brothers, Forrest, LeRoy "Bill" and Clarence SIEREN.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with Father Bernie Weir and Pastors Richard Schlotter & George Edgerely officiating. Burial will be in Brooks Cemetery near Hedrick.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday.
Memorials may be made to Hospice, 927 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, the Carl Craft Civic Center of Hedrick or ARC of Jefferson Co. and nearby counties.
