Audrey V. MOTE, 90, of Keosauqua, died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Keosauqua United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the family present from 6-7:30 p.m.
Memorials to Keosauqua United Methodist Church or Sunnyside Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or church or may be mailed to the family at 20006 Osage Ave., Keosauqua 52565.
Mrs. MOTE was born March 7, 1921, in Rabbit Ridge neighborhood, northwest of Troy, the daughter of Gifford and Addie BRADBURY HARGROVE. She married Raymond MOTE at 12:01 a.m. Jan. 1, 1941, at her parents' home east of Milton. He died Dec. 12, 1985.
Mrs. MOTE attended Schuman, Dutch Flat and Pleasant Knoll rural schools in Davis County and Chicken Ridge school in Van Buren County. She graduated from Milton High School as salutatorian in 1938. She then attended Jackson School of Business in Chillicothe, Mo. In 1940 and 1941, Mrs. MOTE worked as a secretary at several businesses and later for Rucker's Hatchery in Ottumwa. In 1944, the couple moved to her parents' farm east of Keosauqua and lived there until Mr. MOTE's death. Mrs. MOTE and her son then lived on and ran the farm, and two years later, she moved into Keosauqua.
Mrs. MOTE volunteered at Van Buren County Hospital and Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.
Mrs. MOTE was a member of Milton Christian Church and later Keosauqua United Methodist Church. In 2006, she received a 42-year Sunday school attendance pin. She was secretary of her class for many years.
Survivors include one daughter, Darlene SMITH and husband Tottain "Sam" of Sheridan, Ore.; one son, Rex MOTE and wife Valerie of Keosauqua; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one stepdaughter, Cheryl HARTFIELD of the Houston, Texas, area; and three stepgrandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
