Raymond 'Bud' MILLER

Raymond "Bud" MILLER, 75, of rural Oxford, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at home.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford, with the Rev. Edmond Dunn officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery near Oxford.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday at the church, where a parish vigil service will begin at 6 p.m.

Mr. MILLER was born Jan. 16, 1936, in Iowa City, the son of D. Loraine and Lily CAMPBELL MILLER. He married Leanne Marie MAHONEY April 12, 1958, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Mr. MILLER attended schools in the Oxford area and graduated from Oxford High School in 1954. He enlisted in the United States Army and served two years, one year with the Honor Guard in Washington, D.C.

Mr. MILLER began a career with Western Fraternal Life Association in 1962 as a salesman, worked his way to the top to become president and CEO in 1987 and retired in 1999.

Mr. MILLER was involved with St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clear Creek Amana School Board, First Trust and Saving Bank of Oxford board, Knights of Columbus and many more organizations.

Mr. MILLER was an Iowa Hawkeyes and Clear Creek Amana sports fan. He enjoyed working with wood, golfing and caring for his "Ponderosa" on his tractor.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Kathy MILLER and Randy WARD of Iowa City, Mike MILLER and Lyn of Oxford, Susan SAX and Mike of Oxford and Terry MILLER of Tiffin; one daughter-in-law, Lyn MILLER of Oxford; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rose KENNEDY of Fairfield and Marilyn THOMPSON of Parker, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
