CARL Rites To Be Wednesday

Herschel H. CARL, life-time resident of Fairfield, died at 8:50 a.m. Sunday at the Jefferson County Hospital.

Although he had been in failing health for the past three years his death was sudden and unexpected.

Last rites will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Nazarene church with the Rev. Robert Swanson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The body is at the Raymond Funeral home and will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Herschel H. CARL, 66, was born May 28, 1899, at Fairfield, the son of Chester and Sierra Nevada SIMMONS CARL. He was reared and educated in Fairfield.

On Nov. 30, 1918, he was married to Naomi LYNN. He operated a produce business in Fairfield for 34 years and attended the Nazarene church. The family home is located about 1½ miles northeast of Fairfield.

CARL is survived by his wife and one son, David, who resided on rural route 1, Fairfield; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Louie HESTON and Mrs. Mark BAKER, both of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by one son, one brother and a sister.

The engraved name on his portion of the headstone is "H. Herschel"; the obituary and other sources tend to have the name as Herschel Henry CARL or Herschel H. CARL. Why the difference between the headstone name order and the other sources isn't known.

NOTICE OF PROBATE OF WILL, OF APPOINTMENT OF EXECUTOR, AND NOTICE TO CREDITORS

In The District Court Of The State Of Iowa In And For Jefferson County

In The Matter Of The Estate Of Henry Herschel CARL, Deceased.

To All Persons Interested In The Estate Of Henry Herschel CARL Deceased:

You are hereby notified that on the 13th day of May, 1966 the Last Will and Testament of Henry Herschel CARL deceased bearing date of the 25th day of July, 1963, was admitted to probate in the above named Court and that Naomi CARL was appointed executor of said estate.

Notice is further given that any action to set aside said Will must be brought in the District Court of said County within one year from the date of the second publication of his notice, or thereafter be forever barred.

Notice is further given that all persons indebted to said estate are requested to make immediate payment to the undersigned, and creditors having claims against said estate shall file them with the clerk of the above named district court, as provided by law, duly authenticated, for allowance; and unless so filed within six months from the second publication of this notice (unless otherwise allowed or paid) such claim shall thereafter be forever barred.
