Died of Paralysis.

John Carroll BRADSHAW, who had been a resident of Jefferson county for sixty-two years, died at the home of S. A. HOWARD, just east of the city, Saturday night. He was stricken with paralysis about seven months ago and never rallied from the attack. Mr. BRADSHAW was born in White county, Tenn., Nov. 29th, 1822. When eight years of age he accompanied his parents to McDonough county, Ill., and in 1838 they removed to this county, locating on a piece of land in Cedar township which has been known for more than half a century as the BRADSHAW farm. Mr. BRADSHAW was married to Anna F. WHITHAM in 1844, the wife dying here in 1897. Three children by this marriage are now living, Dr. A. C. D. and William E. BRADSHAW and Mrs. S. A. HOWARD, all of this city. Mr. BRADSHAW was not only a Jefferson county pioneer, but he had a very wide acquaintance among the earlier residents of the county. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for many years, and a good man and citizen. Many old friends throughout the community will learn of his death with regret. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. I. O. Kemble.

A Pioneer Passes Away.

J. C. BRADSHAW, a pioneer citizen of Jefferson county, after a lingering illness passed away at his home last Saturday night. Funeral services occurred Monday afternoon from the M. E. church, conducted by Rev. Kemble. Interment, attended by a multitude of sorrowing friends and relatives, followed in the Evergreen cemetery.

John Carroll BRADSHAW was born in White county, Tennessee, November 29, 1822. His boyhood days were spent at that place and when he arrived at the age of eight years he removed with his parents to McDonnough (sic) county, Ill. They resided there seven years and then came to iowa where they settled on a farm in Jefferson county, in 1838, just southeast of this city. Mr. BRADSHAW, being a boy of 15 years of age at this time, found ample occupation for his industry and the family prospered. He succeeded his father to the farm and in 1844 was married to Miss Anna F. WHITHAM. To this union was born six children, four boys and two girls; three of which are now living, Dr. A. C. D. and Will F. BRADSHAW of this city, and Mrs. Nora P. HOWARD, of this vicinity.

Deceased was truly one of nature's noblemen. Popular, beloved and respected by all, he leaves behind him a career worthy of eulogy, fit for example, a model deserving to be copied.
