Thursday, June 22, 1865

Death of Sgt. Chas. BRADSHAW... On the 6th of June Co. H left Washington for Iowa... About 4 o'clock on the morning of the 8th, at a small station called Summer Hill, on the Pennsylvania RR, an accident happened to our train, completely smashing the car Co. H was in, and so seriously injuring Sgt. BRADSHAW that he died in less than an hour after the accident happened.... On our arrival at Pittsburg the Railroad Company furnished a metallic coffin, and paid the expenses of two men to take Sgt. BRADSHAW home. What a shock it must have been to his poor wife....
