Mark E. WESTON, 79, died Sunday, July 10, 2003, at Goddard House Nursing Home in Boston, Mass., from complications associated with Alzheimer's disease.
The body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at West Des Moines United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lockridge Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Rev. Mark. E. Weston Scholarship Fund at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant.
Mr. WESTON was born July 3, 1924, the son of Edward and Frances TOOTHACRE WESTON. He married Murrell V. STONE. She preceded him death.
Mr. WESTON met and married his wife while attending Iowa Wesleyan College. His family included many ministers such as his grandfather and uncle who were Baptist ministers in southern Iowa and a niece, Genelle GENKINGER NETLAND, who presently serves as a Lutheran minister in Bemidji, Minn. Mr. WESTON carried on that tradition graduating from Garrett Theological Seminary. He received an appointment as deacon in the Methodist church in 1951 and ordained as an elder in 1952.
Mr. WESTON served Methodist churches in Oakville-Kingston, Windsor-Des Moines, Corydon, Ankeny and Ivy-Centennial. His 40-year ministry included the use of music, humor, fellowship and faith to help others.
Mr. WESTON served on boards for Lutheran Hospital, Wesley Acres and was active in the Lions Club and Spiritual Frontiers Fellowship.
Survivors include one son, Mark Edward and wife Kay of Atlanta; one daughter, Martha of Jefferson; and his second wife, Muriel of Des Moines.
Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Pamela and Mary.
