Verna J. WILSON, 89, formerly of Milton, died at 8:55 a.m. Sunday, June 5, 2011, at Westview Care Center in Indianola.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Verna J. WILSON

Verna J. WILSON, 89, of Indianola, formerly of Milton, died at 8:55 a.m. Sunday, June 5, 2011, at Westview Care Center in Indianola.

A service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Milton Christian Church, with the Rev. Justin DeVries officiating. Burial will be in North Barker Cemetery, north of Downing, Mo.

Family visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Memorials to Milton Christian Church may be left at the church or may be mailed to the family at 1305 W. Clinton Ave., Indianola 50125.

Arrangements are in the care of Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Mrs. WILSON was born March 20, 1922, in Hitt, Mo., the daughter of John Henry and Minnie Alice GARMON WHITE. She married Melvin E. WILSON Jan. 22, 1938, in Bloomfield. He died April 12, 2001.

Mrs. WILSON lived most of her adult life in Milton. She lived the past four years in Indianola. She was a homemaker. She also cared for her mother and did day care for children. She had worked at Milton Locker and Memphis Care Center.

Mrs. WILSON was a longtime member of Milton Christian Church, where she served many years as treasurer.

She enjoyed music, especially playing guitar and piano and singing.

Survivors include one daughter, Carolin CHRISTENSEN and husband Vernon of Indianola; one son-in-law, Donald PORTER Sr. of Fairfield; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Connie L. WILSON-PORTER; one grandson; one sister, Beulah ABERNATHY; and three brothers, R. Lee, Samuel and Franklin WHITE.
