Alva Ray WILLIAMS, 85, of Douds, died at 4:40 a.m. today, Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren Hospice in Keosauqua.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.

Alva Ray WILLIAMS

Alva Ray WILLIAMS, 85, of Douds, died at 4:40 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren Hospice in Keosauqua.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Burial, with military rites by American Legion John Hyson Reneker Post, will be in Leando Cemetery, Douds.

Family visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials to John Hyson Reneker Post may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 15568 Emerald Road, Douds 52551.

Mr. WILLIAMS was born Sept. 24, 1925, in Webb City, Mo., the son of Alva and Mary JEWSBURY WILLIAMS. He married Thelma HODGE May 26, 1946.

Mr. WILLIAMS grew up in Missouri and Oklahoma. He lived many years in Cedar Rapids, where he was an engineer on the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City Railroad.

Mr. WILLIAMS served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean conflict.

Mr. WILLIAMS was a member of United Transportation Union, as well as Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and 40 & 8, all of Cedar Rapids. He was a past state commander of AMVETS and a founding member and past commander of AMVETS Cleo Darrell Post 6 of Cedar Rapids. Mr. WILLIAMS was a past commander of American Legion John Hyson Reneker Post 494 of Douds.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Alva WILLIAMS Jr. and wife Cathy of Cedar Raids (sic), Jerry WILLIAMS and wife Doris of Douds and Rick WILLIAMS and wife Tammy of Center Point; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard WILLIAMS; and two sisters, Gladys TURNAGE and Opal PACZESNY.
