Shirley Ann HERTEL

Shirley Ann HERTEL, 84, of Fairfield, died Thursday, June 2, 2011, at home.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Nate Nims officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be sent to 305 Wilson Blvd., Fairfield 52556.

Mrs. HERTEL was born Feb. 5, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Clarence and Edna NORDGREN COURTNEY. She married Charles HERTEL June 6, 1947.

Mrs. HERTEL lived in the Fairfield area for 75 years. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1944. She worked as a secretary to advisors at Parsons College from 1961-1973. She then worked as a teller for First National Bank until retiring in 1987.

Mrs. HERTEL was a member of Order of Eastern Star and Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. She was on the State Women's Bowling Board and was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband; one son: William R. HERTEL and Chris of Gilbert, Ariz.; one daughter: Janice WILSON and Larry of Gilbert, Ariz.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister: Marilyn JUNGMAN of Gold Canyon, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: William and Robert COURTNEY.
