G. W. "Wes" GAUMER, one of Fairfield's oldest business men before his recent retirement, died at 9:10 a.m. today at the Nelson Nursing Home where he had been a patient since Aug. 14, 1968.
Although he had been in failing health the past few months, his death was sudden and unexpected.
Last rites will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Wilson Hyde officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
GAUMER was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Elks and Walton Club.
He was united in marriage to Caryle HOLT in Fairfield. She preceded him in death in 1952.
GAUMER had been in the drug business over 54 years before he was forced to retire some time ago because of his failing health.
George Wesley GAUMER was born Oct. 8, 1883 in Grinnell, the son of James and Anna BALES GAUMER. The family moved to Fairfield when Wes was only two years of age.
He was reared and educated in this community and graduated from the Highland Park School of Pharmacy in Des Moines on June 5, 1906.
Before going to pharmacy school he had worked for the drug firm of Shriner and Swayse located on the northwest corner of the square.
After getting his degree, GAUMER worked for a drug firm in Bloomfield for two years. He was located in Ottumwa for two years and other communities before he returned to Fairfield in 1914 when he and his brother, Harvey E. GAUMER, purchased the Eaton and Israel Drug Store on the south side of the square.
After two years the store was moved to 113 W. Broadway where the Walker Office Supply Store is now located. In 1932 the store was moved to its present location on the northwest corner of the square.
GAUMER is survive by one brother and two sisters: Harvey E. GUAMER, Blanch and Viloma GAUMER, all of Fairfield.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

In The Matter Of The Estate Of G. W. GAUMER, Deceased.
To All Persons Interested In The Estate of G. W. GAUMER Deceased:
You are hereby notified that on the 27th of November, 1968, the last will and testament of G. W. GAUMER bearing date of the 5th day of September, 1968 was admitted to probate in the above named court and that Harvey GAUMER and Viloma GAUMER were appointed executors of said estate.
Notice is further given that any action to set aside said Will must be brought in the district court of said county within one year from the date of the second publication of this notice, or thereafter be forever barred.
Notice is further given that all persons indebted to said estate are requested to make immediate payment to the undersigned, and creditors having claims against said estate shall file them with the clerk of the above named district court, as provided by law, duly authenticated, for allowance; and unless so filed within six months from the second publication of this notice (unless otherwise allowed or paid) such claim shall thereafter be forever barred.
