Death of Mrs. P. E. BLACK.

After an illness lasting for two years, Mrs. Margaret C. BLACK, wife of P. E. BLACK, of Blackhawk township, died at her home Tuesday evening, January 5, at twenty minutes past eight o'clock. Mrs. BLACK was past seventy years old. In every way she was a woman of the best qualities, a devoted wife and mother. She was possessed of a great vitality, and her concern for her family showed itself almost to the very moment of death. Not more than a minute before the last breath she was telling her wishes as to the care of those dear to her and also giving directions for her burial.

The maiden name of the deceased was Margaret C. REITZ, and she was born in Geneva, New York, November 6, 1826. On the 18th of February, 1842, when but sixteen years old, she was married to P. E. BLACK, at Greensboro, Green county, Penn., and there she continued to reside until 1855. In that year she and her husband moved to Fayette county, Penn., and in 1860 they came to this state, settling on the farm which has ever since been their home in Blackhawk township. To her was born eight children, five of whom are still living. These are Mrs. Caroline EBERHART, of Oklahoma; Mrs. Martha WOOD, of Port Perry, Penn; Mrs. Jessie FOGELMAN, of Mound valley, Kansas; Thomas R., of Salt Lake City, and B. F., of this city. Anticipating that she would not live long, all those from a distance have been here to see her this fall. Her final sickness was of a week or ten days' duration. Mrs. BLACK was a life-long member of the Methodist church.

The funeral will take place from the house Thursday morning at half past nine o'clock.
