Earl DANA Dies At Ottumwa

Earl E. DANA, 80, former Fairfield businessman, died Sunday at 11:20 p.m. at the Jefferson Square Manor Nursing Home in Ottumwa. He had been in failing health the past year.

Before moving to Ottumwa 31 years ago, DANA had been in the oil business in Fairfield for over 20 years. He had been employed by the John Morrell Company in Ottumwa for 14 years prior to his retirement.

Last rites will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral Home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Earl E. DANA was born March 25, 1888, at Fairfield, the son of George and Harriett WOLF DANA. He was married to Bertene M. HUMPHREYS on Oct. 25, 1911. She died May 16, 1957.

Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy JOHNSON, Ottumwa, and two grandchildren; one brother, Clarence DANA, Fairfield; and two sisters, Jennie WEST, Clarks, Neb.; and Mrs. William KANN, Fairfield.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by one son, one brother and a sister.

... --Mrs. Sarah DANA of Austin, Minn., was a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence DANA, 408 N. Main, Wednesday. She came to Iowa for the last rites for her brother-in-law, Earl DANA of Ottumwa. Other dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Workman. Afternoon callers were DANA's nieces and nephew, Beatrice COOP (sic - KOPP) of Kewanee, Ill., Mrs. Dorothy JOHNSON, Nancy and Ruth of Ottumwa and Mr. and Mrs. Irvin WHITHAM of Washington.
