"Joseph Whitacre, Sr., died at his home on the Parker farm last Thurs. Mar. 14 at the ripe age of 83 years. Born in Penn. Mar. 28, 1806, came to Iowa in 1852 and settled on a farm west of Brighton in Clay Township. . . . .Interment in Friends Cemetery at Pleasant Plain. He was known as a nice old man and leaned strongly to the Quaker faith."
