"Mrs. Virgil M. Smith, 70, of 503 North Avenue C, Washington, died Sat. Feb. 8 at the Washington County Hospital. Funeral Feb. 12 at Jones Funeral Home. Burial was in Friends Cemetery at Pleasant Plain.
Winona M. McDonald was born April 18, 1898 in Perlee, Iowa, and she was reared in the Fairfield community; married in 1924 in Ottumwa to Virgil Alvia Smith and had lived in Washington the past 33 years. Member Baptist Church. Mr. Smith died in Oct. 1967. Surviving are these children: Clifford Tulgren of Arkansas; Clarence, Arnold and Donald Smith of Washington, Mrs. Nellie Berry and Frank Smith of Muscatine; one stepdaughter, Miss Josephine Smith of Brighton; one sister; 14 grandchildren and 4 greatgrandchildren."
