COUNTY CORRESPONDENCE.

DEATH OF MRS. BECK.

Editors Ledger:--Elizabeth McPHERRAN, widow of David BECK, died at her home in Blackhawk township June 26th. Deceased was born in Huntingdon county, Penn., July 31st, 1825, where she was married April 22d, 1847, to Mr. BECK, who died in this county in May, 1890. Twelve children were born to them, seven of whom are now living and were present at the funeral of their mother. The family came to this county in 1856. Mrs. BECK was a woman who had a large acquaintance in the northern portion of the county. Notwithstanding her household cares and busy home life, she was always able to discharge every duty of friend and neighbor. She was a most estimable woman, and hundreds of friends will sympathize with the mourning children at her death. The remains were interred in this city Wednesday, funeral services being conducted by Rev. H. B. Knight.

COUNTY CORRESPONDENCE.

DEATH OF MRS. BECK.

Editors Ledger:--Elizabeth McPHERRAN was born July 31st, 1825, in Huntingdon county, Pennsylvania, and was married April 22d, 1847, to David BECK, now deceased. There were twelve children born of this marriage, seven of whom survived their mother and were present at her funeral. Mrs. BECK came of a race of North Country Presbyterians who settled on the Atlantic seaboard during Colonial times. She was bred in the Presbyterian church, of which she early became a member and remained in such church relation until she and her husband came in 1856 to live in this county. Here the Methodist Episcopal church was within sight of her home, and she wisely chose to worship with her neighbors in that church. June 26th, 1893, she ceased to be vexed with the painful riddle of human life. The life of such a mother, spent on a farm, is not the most attractive one. The cares and anxieties for the children, the anguish over their untimely death, the slavish drudgery of the domestic duties so fill up the measure of existence as ordinarily to leave but little time for social intercourse; but this woman saw her duties clearly and performed them well, and it must have gladdened the later days of her life to realize that whatever measure of success her children attained was in no small degree owing to her unfaltering zeal on their behalf. A good neighbor, a fast friend, a tireless worker in every approved relation of life, a firm believer in the justice of God, and, withal, an humble seeker of His mercy, has now, after "life's fitful fever," been laid to rest.
