Suddenly Stricken Down.

David BECK, a man widely known throughout Jefferson county, where he has resided for more than a third of a century, died at his home in Blackhawk township, north west of this city, very suddenly Sunday morning, from an affection of the heart. He was in this city Saturday and apparently in his usual health. During the night he told his wife he was not feeling well, and arose at an earlier hour than usual, thinking a walk out doors would do him good. About 8 o'clock he lay down again, and in a few moments passed quietly away. Mr. BECK was born near Warrior's, Huntingdon county, Pennsylvania, May 5th, 1820. His earlier life was spent on the old homestead, and on April 22d, 1847, near the place of his birth he was married to Elizabeth McPHERRAN, who survives him. To them twelve children, six sons and six daughters, were born, seven of whom are now living. In 1856 the family came to this county, locating on the farm where the husband and father died. During his long residence here Mr. BECK has always borne the highest esteem of all who became acquainted with him. In early life he became a member of the Baptist church and after he moved to Iowa united with the M. E. church. That he lived the life of a consistent christian is beyond dispute, but there were other noble qualities in the man which endeared him to his family and friends. Ever a prominent man in the community in which he lived, he was ever on the right side of any measure for its improvement and advancement or (sic) the good of its people. His death will be quite generally mourned throughout his large circle of acquaintance, and his bereaved family will have sincere sympathy in its sorrow. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. W. G. Thorn, pastor of the Methodist church of this city, were held at the family residence yesterday, and the remains were brought to this city later for interment in the Evergreen cemetery. The funeral was largely attended, particularly by the people of the neighborhood in which Mr. BECK had spent so many years of his life.
