Mrs. Thomas FOGARTY passed peacefully away this morning at 2:45 o'clock at her home on North Seventh street. The funeral services will be held Friday morning at ten o'clock at Saint Mary's Catholic church and the body will be laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery.

Mary MARONEY FOGARTY was born in Rosemore County, Tipparary, Ireland May 13, 1838 she was married to Thomas FOGARTY at Syracuse, New York. Soon afterward they moved to Burlington, Iowa, where they resided until September of the same year when they moved to this city and have since made Fairfield their home.

For fifty years through joys and sorrows they have been residents of this city and aided very materially in building up the city. A consecrated Catholic mother, Mrs. FOGARTY raised her children to be an honor and credit to the community.

Of a family of five children who blessed this home, three have preceeded (sic) their mother across the river of death; two sons, John and Micheal, and one daughter, Ellen.

Mrs. FOGARTY was born in the Catholic faith and her life was a beautiful testimony to the strength and simplicity of her faith. She had been in ill health for about a year previous to her death and last Saturday was stricken with appoplexy (sic) from which she never rallied.

Mrs. FOGARTY is survived by her aged husband and two daughters, Mrs. Thomas McMANN (sic - McMAHON) of Burlington and Mrs. John FRITZ of this city, also one brother, John MORONEY (sic) of this city.

Lived a Half Century in Fairfield.

Mary MARONEY, wife of Thomas FOGARTY, died in this city the 12th inst. She had been a resident of Fairfield for a most (sic) half a century and had a wide acquaintance here in her active years. Mrs. FOGARTY was born in Rosmore, County Tipperary, Ireland, May 13th, 1838, and came to the United States in young womanhood. February 11th, in Syracuse, N. Y., she was married to Thomas FOGARTY, who survives her. They came to Burlington in 1858, and in September of that year removed to Fairfield, where they have since resided. Five children were born to them--Mary, Ellen, John, Michael and Margaret--only two of whom are now living, Mary, wife of Thos. McMAHON of Burlington, and Margaret, wife of John H. FRITZ of this city. During her long residence in this city Mrs. FOGARTY had formed many warm friendships, for she had that kindly manner, that warm heart, that generous disposition which attracted people to her. She was a devout member of the Catholic church and always had a foremost place in its good works. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's church Friday. Rev. H. J. Hogan conducted the ceremonies, and he paid a deserved tribute to this good woman.

The Passing of a Pioneer.

In the death of Mrs. Thomas FOGARTY at her home last Wednesday morning Fairfield loses another one of the worthy pioneers who came here in an early day and helped to make our little city what it is.

Mary MORONEY was born in Tipperary county, Rosemore, Ireland, May 13, 1838. She came to Syracuse, N. Y., and was married there Feb. 11, 1858, to Thomas FOGARTY. They came to Burlington and remained until September of that year, when they came to Fairfield, where they have since made their home. Their fiftieth wedding anniversary, known as the golden wedding, was on Feb. 11. Their home was brightened with children, only two of whom remain to comfort the husband and father i his (sic) great sorrow. They are: Mrs. J. H. FRITZ of this city and Mrs. Thos. McMAHON of Burlington.

It is thought that Mrs. FOGARTY's death was perhaps hastened by grieving over the death of their daughter, Nellie, which occurred some months ago. Her health has been poor the past year, but only this winter has she been confined to her home and she sufered a stroke of apoplexy Saturday, the 8th, from which she never rallied. Deceased was a devout Catholic and whenever her health would permit was an attendant at mass. She was a devoted wife and mother and the kind of a neighbor that everyone likes to have, cheerful and pleasant to meet, kind and helpful wherever help was needed. She will not only be missed in the home circle, but also by the many neighbors and friends who knew her but to love her.

Funeral services were conducted from St. Mary's church Friday morning. Requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Hogan and sung by Miss Cora Ball and the remains laid to rest in the family lot at Evergreen cemetery.
