Death of Mrs. BIGELOW.

Mary J. HOLLIDAY, wife of Samuel E. BIGELOW, died in this city about noon Saturday from capillary bronchitis. Deceased had been in feeble health for a number of years, but her final illness was of less than a week's duration and she was confined to bed but a day or two. Mrs. BIGELOW was born at Shelbyville, Mo., in 1832, and removed to Marietta, O., with other members of her family when a child. Here she grew to womanhood, and was married February 5th, 1852. Mr. and Mrs. BIGELOW came to Fairfield in 1858, and this city has since been their home. Three children were born to them. One died in childhood and the others, Mrs. Ed. HAMILTON of Elgin, Ill., and Mrs. Cynthia HAMMOND, are yet living. Because of her ill health and retiring nature Mrs. BIGELOW never had a very wide circle of acquaintance in this city, but those who were so fortunate as to gain her friendship esteemed her very highly for her womanly virtues and excellences of character. Their sympathy will go out to the bereaved husband and children in their sorrow. Funeral services were held at the family residence Monday, Rev. H. L. Marsh of the Congregational church conducting them.

Death of Mrs. Samuel BIGELOW.

There was general surprise last Saturday when word was passed around that Mrs. Samuel BIGELOW, of this city, was dead. It was sudden and may be said to have been unexpected. For years Mrs. BIGELOW had been an invalid, however, and for some days previous to her death she had been worse than usual, but her death was not looked for and when it came it was a great surprise to all her friends. Her maiden name was Mary J. HOLLIDAY, and she was born near Palmyra, Mo., about fifty-nine years ago. She was married at the home of her parents in Marietta, Ohio, in February, 1852, to Mr. BIGELOW, and came with him to this city in May, 1858. Mrs. BIGELOW was the mother of three children, Mrs. Edward HAMILTON, now of Elgin, Ills., Mrs. Cynthia HAMMOND, of this city, and a third daughter who died when two years old. She was held in high estimation by all who knew her as a most excellent woman, kind as a neighbor, gentle and faithful as a wife and mother. Her funeral took place at the residence Monday afternoon at half past two o'clock and was conducted by Rev. H. L. Marsh of the Congregational church.
