"Joel C. Paxson, born Logan County, Ohio, Mar. 15 1819; came to Iowa 1839. . . . .resident of Penn Township since 1839; died at his home near Pleasant Plain the 6th inst. . . . .Came to Iowa and took a claim north of where the town of Pleasant Plain is located, where he resided until his death. In 1843 married Nancy Bell; 7 children. . . . .wife died 1873. Two years later he married Leah J. Hinshaw who with their daughter is left. . . . ."
