Fred R. McINTIRE Is Heart Victim

Death came suddenly this morning to Fred R. McINTIRE, former Jefferson county sheriff and chief of the Fairfield police department.

He suffered a heart atack (sic) at his home, 50½ E. Burlington street, about 5:30 a.m. He was rushed to the Jefferson county hospital where he passed away about an hour later.

Last rites will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with the Rev. Harold Rasche in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery where Masonic services will be held at the grave.

“Fred” as his many friends knew him, served the community for a number of years as a peace officer. He first joined the Fairfield police department as a police officer and was later elevated to the position as chief.

He was then elected sheriff of Jefferson county and served in that capacity for a number of years. After leaving the sheriff’s office he served as an officer for the state highway commission for some time.

McINTIRE later returned to the police force for a short time and more recently had operated his own real estate agency.

McINTIRE is a native of Fairfield and was reared and educated in the public schools here. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, the I.O.O.F. lodge and Clinton Lodge No. 15.

He was born July 2, 1899, in Fairfield, the son of the late Benjamin F. and Millie A. WARD McINTIRE. He was united in marriage on June 19, 1920, to Helen REAMES who survives. He spent his entire life in this community and through his work as a peace officer he accumulated a long list of friends.

Besides his wife he is survived by seven brothers: Emery, Wichita Falls, Kan.; Arthur, Sacramenton (sic), Calif.; John, Cedar Rapids; Robert, Harold and Wayne, all of Fairfield, and Glen, North Hollywood, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two infants (sic) sons.
