W. J. GILBERT DIED SUDDENLY

Well Known Business Man Stricken Saturday Night: Funeral This Afternoon

William J. GILBERT, who has conducted a feed barn business in this city for the past twenty-six years, was stricken with apoplexy Saturday evening about 8 oclock as he had walked a few yards from his home to talk with his son. He had been in his usual health that evening and had been staying with his twin grandsons while his wife and daughters were down town.

The funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 oclock from the Methodist church in charge of Dr. W. R. Keesey of Ottumwa and interment took place in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. GILBERT was born in Jefferson county on a farm near Fairfield Jan 16, 1866, the son of Robert and Margaret GILBERT. He was united in marriage to Miss Nancy Margaret PERRY, Jan. 9, 1900. They lived on a farm until in 1903 when they moved to Fairfield and he started in business here. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children:

Mrs. A. J. BOGEN of New Albin, Iowa; Miss Alice at home, Frederick of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Harold at home. A son Robert died at the age of 1½ years. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. John CRAWFORD, Sr., of Stockport.

Mr. GILBERT has long been associated with the Methodist church and for many years was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge.
